American Red Cross Financial Development Coordinator in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Description:

The American Red Cross depends heavily on the support of our generous donor population. We participate in many donor-focused fundraising activities including identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding of top corporate and foundation partners, as well as with individual donors across the country. The funds we receive provide unrestricted support to our Chapters, helping us fulfill our mission to provide relief to victims of disaster and help people prevent, prepare and respond to emergencies in our communities.

The American Red Cross Minnesota Region is seeking a Development Coordinator. The selected hire will be based in our Minneapolis, MN Chapter.

Job Summary:

Coordinates and serves as a resource for supporting the day-to-day operations of a comprehensive development function. Acts as liaison with the public regarding donations, meetings and special events. Processes forms and reports; provides donor database information, communications and donor recognition. Maintains a calendar of reports, meetings and events. Processes development mailings.

Responsibilities:

  1. Independently resolves minor problems and issues which may impact development function outcomes.
  2. Conducts or coordinates chapter based direct mail fundraising and distributes all mailings including donor thank-you letters.
  3. Manages the chapter's donor database. Confirms donation coding and provides associated reports.
  4. Provides administrative and clerical support including answering telephones, routing incoming calls, processing mail and customer service.
  5. Reconciles and processes non-chapter donations, forwarding check requests as appropriate.
  6. Responds to general inquiries about development program or service.
  7. Maintains strict confidentiality of donors, contributions, programs and department procedures.
  8. It is the responsibility of all Red Cross staff members to recruit, train and work with volunteers and to treat all clients, volunteers, guests, and other employees in a courteous and respectful manner at all times while maintaining a cooperative atmosphere for everyone. It is expected that each member of the regional management team to work with a volunteer counterpart to ensure key volunteers are utilized and ensure depth within the function.
  9. Carries out any additional assignments required to fulfill the Mission of the American Red Cross.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Clerical certificate or Associate's degree preferred. Experience: Minimum 2-4 years of proven experience in administrative clerical functions. Some experience with development practices is preferred. Management Experience: None Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills. Experience supervising and coordinating volunteers in clerical functions. Demonstrated office skills and knowledge of office systems and procedures. Demonstrated competencies in the following areas: detail orientation and organization skills, flexibility, customer service, and ability to problem solve. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with integrity and ethically. Other: Intermediate level proficiency in MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Travel: May involve travel in the field

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements: Depending on work assignment, may require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; or the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights up to 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information. Overall mobility is essential including sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle and working under challenging conditions.

Work Conditions: Work is performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to emergency services relief work. May travel and participate in meetings and conferences throughout Chapter jurisdiction, state and Red Cross system. Because the Red Cross is a disaster response organization, staff may be asked to be on 24-hour call during period of major disaster.
